Selecting the right fire is largely down to your own personal preferences. There are few homes that wouldn’t be improved by the addition of a fire. There are different types available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages, so choosing can be difficult.
When we see a natural fire, we have an urge to huddle in front of it and there are few things more inviting on a cold winter’s day. There aren’t many people who wouldn’t want to have a real fire in their front room. Real fires don’t just provide heat, they create a welcoming environment and serve as a focal point for a room.
A gas fire is a decent alternative to a real fire. Gas fires are tidier and easier to operate – you do not need to bring in coal or wood and clear up loads of ash after you’ve had a fire. Gas allows you to control the heat you get easily and many of these fires are really good to look at these days.
If you choose to install an electric fire, you do not need to have a chimney, you can put it pretty much anywhere. A modern electric fire is visually appealing too – far removed from the rather functional designs of yesteryear. Electric fires are perhaps the most convenient of all as they can be switched on and off at the touch of a button, perhaps even via a remote control.
When you set out to buy a new fireplace, you will need to consider the room and the structure of the house. If you do not have a chimney, you will not be able to have a real fire and would instead be better off with an electric fire. The right choice of fire can make your home a great deal more appealing.
