Going off the grid can have multiple meanings depending on who you talk to. It could have the meaning of living your life independently from the status quo and not having to rely on various sources for our basic needs. It could be anything from being able to supply your own power, to total sustainable living, or being able to provide for yourself in all of our basic needs.
To some people it is a dream to be able to provide your own food, water and electricity. When you can completely provide for yourself, you are free from having to depend on others for your basic needs. The world as we know it now has developed into a need for each other to provide essentials. The big corporations are enjoying huge monetary gains by creating a lifestyle where we cannot live without paying them for their services.
It makes one wonder what would happen when we are cut off from the cushy lives we now lead. What if your water was cut off and you had no source of water? Could you survive? Do you have the means of sustain life without the municipalities providing for you?
One part of our lives that we have taken for granted is electricity. Flip a switch and our appliances come on. Only in modern history have we come to expect such a convenience for things such as communications, pumping water for basic needs, keeping our food from spoiling, staying cool with our a/c systems and being able to get on the internet. We could make a list of hundreds if not thousands of uses for electricity.
Have you ever thought about getting off the grid to be able to sustain your own life? If our grid system were to suddenly fail, where would that leave us? Could we communicate? Would we be stuck using flashlights and candles like our forefathers did? What if our power grid went down long term? Life as we know it would stop completely.
There are many people who are prepared for just such occurrences, who don’t worry about their power being cut off. These people are ready with systems in place that will generate their own power if need be. Some of them even create their own power as their daily life. They don’t have to worry about blackouts, or stormy weather where there would lose power. They are ready for the worst of the worst kinds of weather.
There are several types of alternative energy from the power grid, but there are two that are very easy to implement. One is solar power, which uses the suns rays to create electricity. And there is wind energy, which uses a wind turbine to create power. The wind turbine is very reliable, and will work during stormy weather, whereas the solar system will only work when the sun is shining. Both systems are reliable and the costs for implementing such systems are dropping rapidly as the days and months go by.
With Wind energy, you don’t have to worry if the sun is shining or not. When the sky is clouded over, as long as there is a small breeze blowing, you can provide electricity.
So when the sun isn’t shining, due to wind storms or rain storms – night or day, you can have electricity. The cost of wind power is very inexpensive for diy wind generator builders. With a set of homemade wind generator plans, you can build your own wind turbine for less than $200. How is that for savings? When using the right wind generator plans, you will be guided through every step of the way with blueprints, videos, materials lists, and everything that the typical diy’er will need to get their system up and running.
